One of my favorite things about camping is the food. Food cooked on a fire tastes so much better than the “everyday” food we make at home! A couple of weekends ago we went on a camping trip as a family – it was wonderful! Other than my kids catching their first fish (I think they trained the fish at that campground to come when they see a fishing pole – we caught 5 in half an hour!), the highlight of our trip were campfire cones that we made. These “Smore Cones” were so yummy and are super easy to make!

Be flexible when camping with kids. Odds are your outing probably isn't going to go exactly how you planned it. Maybe someone in your group just isn't good at getting going in the morning, or an afternoon rainstorm disrupts your plans. Roll with it. Nature is often unpredictable. The point is not to stress out about putting a check mark next to every single thing on your wish list, but to enjoy being outdoors with your kids. If you're not enjoying the experience, it will be hard for them to.

Lori Schilling-Davis, a flight attendant with American Airlines, has been camping with her two children since they were 3 years and 10 months old. Logan is now 7, Delaney is 4, and she says she's just reserved their favorite Lake Tahoe, NV, campsite for Logan's camping birthday party (his idea). Schilling-Davis says the hardest age for her was when the kids were crawling. "Take a pack n' play," she advises. "Otherwise it's just dirt - they're eating dirt, sniffing dirt up their noses." She says the pack n' play serves 2 purposes: a bed for sleeping and a playpen where they can watch what's going on around camp.

Check out these simple cooking tips to try for your next RV trip. This article shares several tricks to make cooking on your RV quick and easy. Remember it's all about proper preparation!

• Plan Ahead. This is one of the most important elements of RV cooking. You can make sauces, stews, soups, and other side dishes ahead and freeze them, then you just need to warm them up for dinner.

• Make mixes ahead of time. If you're going to make bread, measure out all the dry ingredients into a plastic bag, and then simply add the wet ingredients when you're ready to bake. The same goes for pancakes, waffles, breading mixes, and other types of flours and mixes. Measure them out ahead of time, then you only have to mix and cook in the kitchen, and you don't have to carry around all the different ingredients, taking up space in your small RV pantry.

• Marinate meats and vegetables ahead of time. You can transport meats and vegetables in their marinades in plastic bags. When you're ready to cook, they're already marinated, which saves you another step along the way.

• Plan to grill several meals, or at least grill some of the items on the menu, to help free up space in the kitchen.
